Spaghetti Sauce from the Slow Cooker

1 ½ pounds ground beef

1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes

½ cup chopped onion

1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste

1 tablespoon white sugar

1 tablespoon Parmesan cheese

1 clove garlic

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon oregano

½ teaspoon anise seed

1 bay leaf
