Gingery and slightly spicy, this is my family's favorite peanut sauce.

Peanut Sauce II

Ingredients

¼ cup vegetable oil

1 cup chopped onion

2 cloves garlic

minced

2 tablespoons minced fresh ginger root

1 jalapeno pepper

seeded and minced

1 cup peanut butter

1 ¼ cups water

¼ cup tamari or soy sauce

3 tablespoons honey

¼ cup fresh basil leaves

cut into thin strips

3 fresh basil leaves for garnish

Directions

Step 1

Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Stir in onion; cook and stir until the onion has softened and turned translucent about 5 minutes. Add garlic jalapeno pepper and ginger; cook and stir for 2 minutes more.

Step 2

Stir in peanut butter water tamari and honey until smooth. Add shredded basil. Heat through and remove from heat. Garnish with whole basil leaves if desired.
