An old brandy, vermouth, and bitters cocktail that dates from about the 1880s. Also good with a dash of orange bitters.
1 ½ cups ice
1 ½ fluid ounces cognac
1 ½ fluid ounces dry vermouth
2 dashes bitters (such as Peychaud's Bitters®)
1 maraschino cherry
for garnish

Directions
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Pour in cognac and vermouth then shake in bitters. Stir well strain into a chilled glass and garnish with a cherry.
